Arash!
I’ll say that we have to hold artists accountable to the things that so clearly inspire them. If, say, Glover made an album that sounded like this and the cover was Al Green’s “Can’t Get Next To You,” with songs inspired by James Taylor (both artists who ALSO released sonorous albums in 1971 that weren’t so directly sociopolitically influenced, btw), there’s a space for criticism that’s not so directly based on current events. But, when you grab “Maggot Brain” and “There’s A Riot Goin’ On,” you’re stepping into some dangerous territory for certain.
